Private Loch Ness cruise with a piper

A long, narrow and extremely deep lake, Loch Ness may well be an ideal habitat for a prehistoric creature and it’s certainly her reputation that draws visitors from far and wide. The lake, however, and its Highland surroundings are undeniably beautiful and this half-day private tour aboard a luxury cruiser allows you the opportunity to explore as you wish. Pursue the mysterious creature that lives below, discover ancient castles on the lakeshore or simply soaking up the wild scenery and the brooding hills. It's a wonderfully entertaining journey, enriched by local knowledge and a plentiful supply of great food and drink.

The tour begins at Dochgarroch, where you meet your modern motorboat's captain and get a chance to discuss your wishes for the trip. How you spend your time on Loch Ness is entirely up to you, so if you have any particular interests please tell your captain and he’ll do his best to accommodate them.

The entertaining captain is a local resident, full of historic knowledge and interesting anecdotes about the internationally renowned loch and its mysterious monster. He can take you to whatever part of the lake you wish.

If you don't have any specific requests, the general plan is that you’ll head out from the picturesque town of Dochgarroch along the Caledonian Canal, first into Loch Dochfour, then into Loch Ness toward the picturesque ruins of Urquhart Castle. Magnificently situated on the lakeshore and once one of Scotland's largest castles, the ruins are best seen from the water.

On your way back you get a chance to sample some of Scotland’s finest single-malt whisky, and can even take a hand in captaining the boat yourself. You’re out on the water for about half a day, with lunch and all drinks included in the cost of the trip.

To make your trip even more memorable you’ll be joined by an ex-Scots Guardsman bagpiper, who’ll play for you in full military regalia. Along with providing music throughout the cruise, your piper will explain a little about the art and history of bagpiping, as well as telling you about the history of the Scots Guards (once personal bodyguards of King Charles I), their role in the British Army and the history and significance of their scarlet uniform.
