Dakota Deluxe

Dakota Deluxe

Glasgow, The UK

Located just off Blythswood Square, Dakota Deluxe is a short walk from the main shopping area yet away from the noise and crowds of the evening. It exudes an air of elegant minimalism from the moment you walk through the door. Low lighting, soothing music, a muted palette and plush fabrics are accented by contemporary art and a sleek, uncluttered style.

The 83 rooms are understated but refined with the same subtle tones, exposed brickwork and combination of soft leathers and dusky velvets. All rooms are a good size with space for an armchair or chaise longue and a writing desk. Framed musical scores or poetry hangs on the walls, there’s a media hub and a smart TV with full Sky package, as well as a Nespresso machine in Executive rooms and the suites.

The hotel has a stylish bar, a champagne room and a large restaurant, The Grill, which is situated underground and divided into smaller, more intimate areas. The menu features steaks and fish grilled over hot coals and accompanied by crispy salads and a decent wine list.

OUR OPINION:

We like the classy, elegant atmosphere here and although the overall decor is fairly dark and minimalist, it feels home-like and friendly.

Rooms

Simple but elegant decor in muted grays gives the rooms a calm and tranquil atmosphere with the full-length windows letting in plenty of natural light. Framed musical scores or excerpts from poems or novels hang above the large beds dressed with crisp cottons and plush throws, while the media hub and smart TV with full Sky package mean you can stay connected in comfort. Rooms are big enough to include a leather armchair and writing desk, and the chic, en suite bathrooms feature monsoon showers, with suites also offering a separate stone or roll-top bath.

Location

Situated just off Blythswood Square, Dakota Deluxe has a central location yet avoids the crowds and the noise of the main shopping and museum district. It is about a ten-minute walk from the Gallery of Modern Art, although there are restaurants and shops much closer by. It takes about 15 minutes to reach the hotel from Glasgow airport.

Food and drink

The spacious restaurant is situated below the ground floor and has been cleverly divided into different sections by the use of booths and hangings to allow for more intimate dining. Wooden floors, rich brown leather seating, subtle lighting and modern art give it a smart but relaxed atmosphere, while the menu offers a range of classic dishes with a focus on local meats, fish and seafood. Casual snacks and a choice of drinks and cocktails are served in the ground floor bar, while the champagne room serves a range of carefully-chosen options.
