Hilton Gyeongju, South Korea

Hilton Gyeongju

Gyeongju, South Korea

A large, international-style hotel in the western suburbs of Gyeongju, the Hilton Gyeongju is set in a large resort area along the shores of Lake Bomun about 15 minutes’ drive from the downtown core. Its attractive location and wide range of facilities make it a rewarding choice, and of the hotels on offer at the lakeside, it’s easily the best.

Maintaining the high standards return guests have come to expect from the brand, the Hilton is a good option for families with a seasonal outdoor pool, a spa, sauna and communal baths. The spacious rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows offering views of the mountains or Lake Bomun, while the Ondol rooms have a Korean design as well as small private gardens.

There’s a good choice of bars and restaurants within the hotel complex serving food from China, Japan and the Mediterranean, large landscaped gardens, a spa, gym and barbershop as well as a running track outside.

OUR OPINION:

The Hilton is the most luxurious property in Gyeongju but does not compete with the level of quality seen in cities such as Busan and Seoul. The location is great for a stroll or cycle on the shores of Lake Bomun but is a little removed from the heart of town.

Rooms

Most of the rooms and suites have contemporary, international-style decor in muted neutral tones. Black-and-white photos above the beds add some character, but if you’re looking for more charm, book one of the Korean-style Ondol rooms which have carved woods, tea tables and private gardens.

All guest rooms offer either a view of the mountains or Lake Bomun. Some of the Deluxe rooms and all of the Premium rooms have private balconies, while the suites vary in size and comfort levels. All rooms feature Wi-Fi, on-demand movies and marble bathrooms.

Location

The Hilton is located with several other resort-style properties on the eastern shore of Lake Bomun about a 15-minute taxi ride from the heart of the city. It has scenic mountain views which are particularly attractive during the cherry blossom season or with the autumnal foliage. There are some restaurants and bars in the Bomun resort area which are within walking distance.

Food and drink

There are three on-site restaurants. Pared-back Genji serves sushi and Japanese cuisine, the intimate Silkroad offers a menu of Cantonese and Sichuan cuisine, and the more formal Da Vinci serves Mediterranean food. All three overlook the hotel gardens. The H9 bar, Lakeside Cafe and the light-infused Shilla Court with its floor-to-ceiling windows serve drinks and light snacks.

Families

The Hilton is a popular destination for domestic families so there are plenty of facilities for children. There’s a babysitting service, children’s menu in the restaurants, and cots (cribs) and highchairs available on request. There is also an outdoor playground but this is not open during the winter months.

Facilities and activities

The hotel has an extensive range of sports and recreation facilities including a gym, rental bicycles, jogging track, pool table and outdoor pool. The outdoor pool is only open from June to August and access is chargeable. There’s also an on-site barbershop, florist, gift shop and laundry and valet service.

Accessibility

The property offers accessible rooms with bedroom and bathroom doors being at least 81 cm (32 inches) wide. The elevators and parking facilities also cater for wheelchair access. Service animals are also welcome.
