La Cabrière Country House

La Cabrière Country House

Franschhoek, South Africa

Though it’s just a short walk from town, La Cabrière Country House manages to give the impression that it’s deep in the heart of the countryside, making it a serene base for exploring the Winelands. Surrounded by manicured gardens, the hotel offers panoramic views over the Franschhoek Mountains and valley.

The modern guesthouse boasts classically elegant furnishings in all five spacious rooms: two in the main house offering views of the mountains and a further three rooms in a detached cottage down the drive. The cottage rooms have their own fireplaces, private terraces and French doors with direct access to the gardens and pool.

The gardens offer plenty of shady spots to sit and relax, admire the views, or use the small putting green.

The guesthouse also has an environmentally friendly water recycling system that includes an eco-dam, which attracts many wild birds, fish and endangered frogs.

OUR OPINION:

Even among the standout hotels in Franschhoek, we think La Cabrière is one of the best places to stay. We love the combination of bucolic serenity and ease of access to town, as well as the personable service.

Rooms

Each of La Cabrière’s five rooms have been individually designed, but they all include mountain views, a modern en suite with a bath and shower, air conditioning, TV and Wi-Fi. Two of the rooms are in the main house and three are located in a detached cottage. The soft decor features a muted, neutral palette and subtle French influences. The cottage rooms have their own fireplaces and French doors that lead to a private terrace, overlooking the gardens and swimming pool.

Location

Though the location feels rural and remote, the guesthouse is just a 15-minute walk from the galleries, shops and restaurants of central Franschhoek. There are many wine estates in the region and Cape Town is an hour's drive away.

Food and drink

Guests can enjoy a generous continental breakfast of fruit, breads and pastries served in the cottage with views of the pool and gardens. Hot dishes such as eggs can also be ordered.
