Sitting just across the Douro River from central Porto, in the heart of Vila Nova de Gaia (home to the city’s port wine cellars), the Yeatman is a polished, wine-focused property offering unbeatable views of the river and city beyond.
Every room is river facing with its own terrace, arranged in steps to mimic the landscape of the nearby Douro Valley. Rooms are spacious and air conditioned, with free Wi-Fi and a flat-screen TV. Decoratively, they’ve all been individually styled by a different Portuguese winery using art pieces and pictures to reflect its personality and history. Each floor also has a different decorative theme, taking inspiration from the likes of the Portuguese navigators and the country’s wine regions and history.
The hotel’s gastronomic restaurant boasts two Michelin stars (the only one in Porto to do so), and serves a nightly choice of three tasting menus. There’s also the Orangerie, where you can enjoy breakfast and an à la carte lunch and dinner menu.
The hotel’s expansive spa complex includes treatment rooms, an indoor panoramic pool and a summer outdoor pool, and a small gym offering personal training and yoga.
With a luxurious spa complex and far-reaching views of the river and city from every room, the Yeatman is an excellent option if you’re looking for a relaxing retreat that’s within easy reach of central Porto.

Rooms
The Yeatman’s rooms all carry an individual design by a different Portuguese winery, to tell its story through art pieces and pictures. They each have air conditioning, a flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi, and beds are covered with soft white linens. The bathrooms feature marble fixtures and tile floors with underfloor heating. Some are fitted with a shower or a combination shower and bathtub, while bathrooms in higher categories have a separate shower and bath.
Location
A short boat ride across the Douro River from Porto, the hotel is located in Vila Nova de Gaia, a district known for its port cellars. Several cellars are within walking distance, including Taylor’s, who are part of the same group. In about ten minutes on foot you can reach the waterfront, which is full of restaurants, cafés and more wineries to explore. From the docks, you can take a five-minute water taxi ride across the river to Porto.
Food and drink
The Yeatman’s gastronomic restaurant is the only one in the area to boast two Michelin stars, serving dinner each night with tasting menus of traditional Portuguese fare. The Orangerie is a more relaxed option, offering à la carte lunch and dinner, as well as the hotel’s ample breakfast buffet. On Thursday nights, the hotel hosts a wine dinner that pairs different vintages with Portuguese cuisine. There’s also Dick’s Bar, just behind the lobby, where you can enjoy a drink and light bites in the lounge or outside to the backdrop of the panoramic view across the river.
Families
The hotel’s Kids Club is equipped with DVDs, games, bean bag chairs and a ping pong table. The club is unsupervised, but the hotel is happy to arrange for a nanny or babysitter at an additional cost.
Facilities and activities
A highlight of the Yeatman is taking advantage of its spa complex. As well as spending time in one of the ten treatment rooms, you can make use of the indoor and outdoor pools, sauna, experience shower and hammam. The hammam is free to guests staying in suites, and carries an additional charge for other guests.
