Responsible Choice
The first European property for luxury spa brand Six Senses, the Six Senses Douro Valley creates an air of peaceful seclusion on a bend in the Douro River. Surrounded by terraced vineyards, sun decks and kitchen gardens, city life feels a world away.
The hotel is set on a converted family estate with the decor following a chic, modern design theme, though traditional elements such as stone floors and wooden features, including a long, dark wooden reception desk, add period character. Black-and-white pictures of the previous owners’ family life line the halls and the 50 rooms feature understated decor in natural shades, with clean lines and a mix of textures.
Ultimately, the focus here is on relaxation, with plenty of facilities for guests to use such as the central indoor pool, sauna, water beds and outdoor pool. Guests can also take a tour of the vegetable garden with hotel chefs, who use the produce to create seasonal dishes served from an open kitchen in the main dining room.
The hotel enjoys a secluded location but is just over half an hour’s drive from the town of Pinhão and an hour and a half from Porto.
True to the Six Senses reputation for delivering world-class luxury in settings of incredible natural beauty, the Six Senses Douro Valley is a wonderful option. We love the convenient location and superb views on offer.
