Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi

Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel

The Amalfi Coast, Italy

The Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel is a tasteful blend of 13th-century heritage and modern finishes. The traditional domed ceilings, beautiful cloister and church, and photographs of the convent in the early 20th century bring the history of the property to life.

Situated high up on the hill above Amalfi town, this hotel manages to be quiet, secluded and central. The pleasant walk to town takes you down through a Cyprus, eucalyptus and bougainvillea-lined path, past the infinity pool. All rooms face out onto the sea and port below, except for one which has beautiful views of the cloister instead.

OUR OPINION:

Although Amalfi town is a little touristy and not as picturesque as Positano or Ravello, the Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi is something special and one of the few boutique hotels which is child-friendly. We were charmed by the 13th-century cloister and church, the fantastic service, idyllic pool and sunlit rooms. This hotel is a wonderful choice.

Rooms

All the rooms have a distinct size, shape and character, such is the nature of transforming a historic building into a boutique hotel without damaging its original structures. You can expect high, vaulted ceilings and framed original Vietri tiles on the walls, a speciality of the region. The rooms are styled with simple, soft tones, plenty of sunlight, white walls and modern furniture.

Location

A short walk from the hotel down a verdant country path leads you into the heart of Amalfi town. Here, you can find a little square for lunch or visit the Cloister of Paradise. The small marina in Amalfi town is a key connection point between the main ports on the Amalfi Coast, making it easy to explore the area by boat and by car.

Food and drink

Dei Cappuccini is the main restaurant which offers Italian fine dining. It offers both indoor seating and outdoor seating on the terrace underneath the bougainvillea. There’s also La Locanda della Canonica, which is down by the infinity pool and open daily for lunch. /p>

Facilities and activities

A complimentary shuttle service runs into town at fixed times. The last circuit is at 6pm, after which point you will need to walk back up the hill or get a taxi.
