Shimla Toy Train

Shimla Toy Train

To appreciate the best views provided by the lofty train ride on the historic metre gauge line, you will catch the train from Shimla to Kandaghat station where you will be met by your driver.

The construction of this line was completed in 1903 and is still in perfect working order! In June 2008 this line was classed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This train travels at a maximum of 15 mph, through a multitude of tunnels and over hundreds of bridges up a maximum gradient of 1 in 33 — a somewhat slow but fascinating journey through the foothills of the Himalaya.

If you have time in Shimla ask your guide if he is able to show you the old steam train, rarely used these days but it is well looked after and fun to have a look on board.
