The Deccan Odyssey comprises 21 coaches, each designed with a different royal era in mind. 11 coaches provide the comfortable accommodation, the remainder being used for dining rooms, lounges and conference car among other things.

The guest room cabins all have en suite bathrooms, air conditioning, Wi-Fi and characterful touches which remind you that you're travelling onboard one of India's most luxurious trains. After a day exploring, the guest rooms are perfect for a good night's sleep and elsewhere, the spa and multi-cuisine restaurant offer space to unwind and get to know your fellow guests.

Rooms

There are 40 cabins in total onboard; 36 Deluxe and four Presidential Suites. Cabins have air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a safe, television and dressing gowns/slippers for guests. Mobile phones are provided in every cabin, pre-loaded with staff’s numbers and ear plugs as well as eye masks complete the thoughtful touches. Cabins are comfortable and characterful, maintained and cleaned to a very high standard. Presidential Suites have two bathrooms and a sitting area, which can be converted to accommodate children.

Location

There is a choice of six different eight-day itineraries with the Deccan Odyssey, departing from both Delhi and Mumbai. Your specialist will be able to help you decide which might be best for your interests. The tours are: Indian Odyssey, Maharashtra Splendour, Jewels of the Deccan, Hidden Treasures of Gujarat, Indian Sojourn and Maharashtra Wild Trail.

Food and drink

The exceptional food served on the Deccan Odyssey is one of its strengths. There are two restaurants, both offering multiple options at each course. Soup is often one of the starters and choices for main courses include Thali dishes and Western options as well as both Western and traditional Indian desserts. Vegetarians are well catered for too. Soft drinks are complimentary throughout your stay.

Facilities and activities

Shared, guided excursions take place in each destination; guests are split into groups of around 20-25 people depending on the occupancy of the train. Whether exploring a city, searching for tigers in a national park or enjoying local markets, guests are accompanied by one of the train’s friendly, experienced guides who have good spoken English. Private guides can be booked in advance for specific days (at extra cost) and guests in Presidential Suites have private excursions throughout. Bottled water and hand wipes are always provided and umbrellas are available to provide protection from the sun. There is also a spa onboard to unwind and each guest is offered a complimentary 30-minute massage.
