Waterfall in Tenorio Volcano National Park

Tenorio Volcano National Park Hike

Tenorio Volcano National Park is very close to the lodge and the start of the trail is only 10 miles away.

The trail starts with some steep steps for approximately 685 metres and takes you to one of Costa Rica's hidden gems and most striking sights, the falls of the Rio Celeste. This fast flowing stream seems to tear through a rainforest covered hill before falling 20 metres into a pool of a striking electric blue colour. Known as 'Los Teñideros', the confluence of two crystalline streams turns the Rio Celeste's waters a vivid blue colour, the result of the chemical reaction generated by a mixture of minerals present in the volcanic massif. The walk continues upstream where you visit Tenorio Volcano's impressive furnace vents, which expel sulphuric gases at extremely high temperatures. This tour includes transfers, national park entrance fee, private guide and lunch.

This is a hike on the slopes of the Tenorio Volcano, so you need to be in pretty good shape and enjoy hill walking to get the most out of it.
