Masuwe Lodge

Masuwe Lodge

Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Masuwe is set within its own private concession that adjoins Zambezi National Park, just 7 km (4.4 miles) from Victoria Falls. The lodge is surrounded by natural bush teeming with wildlife and offers views over a small waterhole, the Masuwe River, and the national park beyond. It's a haven of peaceful greenery just a short hop from the town of Victoria Falls. The lodge has nine 'wilderness' chalets, one 'hide-away' chalet, and a 'family nest', all built of stone with vaulted thatched roofs and shaded by mature trees.

The wilderness chalets are compact yet comfortable and include a twin or double bed, dressing area and en suite shower. Glass sliding doors open onto a private deck with bush views. The hide-away is a slightly larger room, tucked away with a view over a small waterhole. This room is ideal for couples in search of privacy and includes an indoor double shower and outdoor bath. Finally, the family nest is set well away from the main area of the lodge and is named after the weaver birds that live in the surrounding trees. There are two bedrooms, sleeping up to five people, each with their own bathroom, a central living room, plunge pool and barbecue area.

The central part of the lodge has shady gardens which surround a stone swimming pool. Under the thatch you'll find a small library, an open bar and a dining area.

OUR OPINION:

We have a soft spot for Masuwe, as it was one of the first bush lodges in the Victoria Falls region. We like that it offers the opportunity to stay in a bush environment within such easy reach of Victoria Falls and all its activities. The staff are its real forte, however some of them have worked at the lodge since it opened in the 1990s, and will greet you with good old-fashioned Zimbabwean hospitality.
