Slaughters Manor, the Cotswolds

The Slaughters Manor House

The Cotswolds, The UK

Originally built as a private home in 1658, this elaborate country manor remained in the same family for 350 years. Today, it retains its period character in the vaulted ceilings, ornate coving and large sash windows but the lavish decor is chic and contemporary in style.

The hotel has just 19 large and luxurious rooms, unique in style and character, many with their own fireplaces and some including a private outdoor hot tub.

On the ground floor is a stylish billiards room with leather Chesterfield armchairs and a bar and restaurant with plush, contemporary furnishings and large French doors that flood the room with light. Guests can enjoy fine modern British dining, or sample a delightful afternoon tea in the lounge.

OUR OPINION:

We love this small and intimate manor house, set in one of the prettiest of the Cotswold villages, for its personal service and fine dining.

Rooms

Rooms are located in either the manor house itself or the external buildings in the garden. Each room is unique in style and decor but all are chic and stylish in an indulgent, country-house manner. Many include original features such as fireplaces and four-poster beds as well as offering all modern amenities including complimentary Wi-Fi, iPod dock and flat-screen TV. Rooms also feature individual touches such as a hip flask of sloe gin and homemade cookies. Bathrooms are large and offer roll top baths while garden suites also include hot tubs in their private garden area.

Location

The manor is set in landscaped gardens with a 15th-century dovecote, a tennis court and a croquet lawn. It is located in the beautiful village of Lower Slaughter where the gentle River Eye runs between honey-toned cottages. There is a charming country pub opposite, and a tea room and shop that serve local products. Bustling Bourton-on-the-Water is just one and a half miles away and can be accessed by foot or taxi.

Food and drink

The hotel has one main restaurant where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served. Afternoon tea can be taken in the lounge or the charming garden overlooking the croquet lawn. Menus feature exquisite modern British dishes inspired by locally- sourced and foraged produce wherever possible. The Sipsmith Bar offers a full range of alcoholic drinks but specializes in gin and serves 42 different options, including many that are locally distilled.
