Screebe House

Connemara, Ireland

Set on a vast private estate in the spectacular Connemara countryside, Screebe House is a secluded Victorian mansion that offers a highly personal experience. It is primarily a restaurant with rooms and has an intimate atmosphere that feels like staying in the luxurious home of a family friend.

The simple, warm decor creates a relaxing environment with mellow lounges and an honesty bar where you can sit and chat with other guests around the open fireplaces.

There are only ten guest rooms with large, luxurious beds, elegant, country-style decor and under-floor heating in the bathrooms. The highly-regarded restaurant features a superb, changing menu revolving around the availability of ingredients.

Rooms

The rooms at Screebe House feature large bay windows that allow copious amounts of natural light to flow into the rooms which accentuates the warm tones of the decor. Beds provide exceptional comfort and luxury and bathrooms offer special amenities to enhance the indulgent feel, including under-floor heating to keep you warm on a cool Irish morning. Although Wi-Fi is available in all rooms, there are no TVs which underscores the idea of peaceful relaxation away from it all. Most rooms have a shower only, although there are two which have both a bath and a shower.

Location

The hotel is completely secluded in its forest surroundings and sits on the edge of Camus Bay, a peaceful inlet of the sea which can be seen from the terrace and drawing room. Though it is hidden in a quiet location, it is just 45 minutes’ drive to Kylemore Abbey to the north and an hour to Galway.

Food and drink

Among the hotel’s highlights is its superb dining. With head chef Pascal Marinot at the helm, each day the dining room produces a unique tasting menu with fresh ingredients such as venison, woodcock, oysters, mussels and salmon gathered from the expansive surrounding estate. As the dining room is exceptionally popular, reservations are essential.

Facilities and activities

The hotel’s luxurious spa includes a swimming pool, gym, sauna and a treatment room, where skilled therapists provide relaxing facial and body treatments. You can also swim from the pier before warming up in the sauna. As the therapists are brought in from outside the hotel, advance reservation is required.

In addition to the spa, the hotel can also help arrange fishing, hunting and falconry.
