Culloden Estate & Spa

Belfast, Ireland

Tradition and innovation meet at Culloden Estate and Spa, a Gothic mansion set just outside Belfast. There is a dramatic sense of grandeur in the public spaces with high ceilings, gilt-framed portraits, ornate fireplaces and chandeliers creating an old world charm. Heading up to the rooms there is a shift in style from historic to modern as decorative pieces are replaced by clean lines and fresh tones of beige and blue.

Every comfort is provided in the rooms, each of which boasts King Coil Cloud bedding, spacious marble bathrooms and iPod docking stations to help you settle in. There are three dining options which each offer a different menu and atmosphere. There is also a well-furnished spa with a pool.

OUR OPINION:

We love this historical and elegant property which provides seclusion yet is just a short distance from central Belfast.

Rooms

Decor in the rooms leans more toward the contemporary side of the hotel’s nature, providing modern comforts like iPod docking stations and elegant King Crown Cloud mattresses. Beautifully styled with sleek wooden furnishings and bright flowers, they achieve a sense of elegance without going over the top. Most rooms offer views of the manicured gardens or Belfast Lough and all feature high definition TVs and complimentary Wi-Fi. The large marble bathrooms have deep baths with power showers while suites are equipped with a separate bath and shower.

Location

The hotel is located in the Holywood area, just outside Belfast, which can be accessed by car in about 15 minutes. There is also a train station less than a ten-minute walk from the hotel, offering another easy way to get into the city.

Food and drink

Culloden, once the Bishop's Palace, has three dining options, The Mitre, the Crozier Lounge and the Cultra Inn, named after the bishops' accessories and the local town land. The elegant Mitre serves a sophisticated menu revolving around seasonal local produce, while the Cultra Inn has a more intimate setting and offers more relaxed, bistro-style dishes. The Crozier Lounge is the perfect place for drinks or afternoon tea.

Facilities and activities

The spa at Culloden is well known for its rejuvenating treatments from highly trained therapists which are tailored to each individual’s needs. In addition to the expansive range of face and body treatments, the spa also features a large swimming pool, steam rooms and a gym with personal trainers.
