Cliff at Lyons

Cliff at Lyons

Dublin, Ireland

Located just 19 km (12 miles) from Dublin, Cliff at Lyons is a beautiful series of old mill buildings, set in its own estate almost like a village. Guests can make use of complimentary bicycles to ride along the canal or to nearby Celbridge, relax in the spa or take part in a cookery class in the onsite cookery school. There are 25 cottages dotted about the estate, in addition to 14 rooms in two manor houses overlooking a grand lily pond.

The restaurant, bar, café, reception and shop are in original mill buildings crawling with foliage set around a central courtyard, with the cottages situated across a stream, on the other side of a beautiful display vegetable garden. The Orangery restaurant serves delicious cuisine made with locally sourced ingredients under a domed glass ceiling, while a fig tree grows up the side of an exposed stone wall.

The Lyon’s Den bar has a wonderfully traditional feel with wooden floors and walls, a roaring fire, comfortable leather furniture and a tapestry on the wall, while the bar itself is made of wine boxes. For those who fancy something more casual, The Trellis café serves refreshments and light meals throughout the day.

OUR OPINION:

We love the luxury country style of this property, in particular the individual comforts of the beautiful cottages.

Rooms

Cliff at Lyons has 14 rooms located in two manor houses, and 25 separate cottages interspersed around the estate. These cottages are furnished to a high standard in a country cottage style with exposed stone walls and wooden beams abound, while the rooms are more contemporary, using gray, white, black and sage green in the decor.

Location

Situated just west of Dublin, both the heart of Dublin and the airport can be reached in just over half an hour’s drive. The surrounding countryside is green and leafy, and the lively nearby town of Celbridge is around a five-minute drive away. The Grand Canal runs through the hotel grounds and continues into Dublin.

Food and drink

The Orangery, set beneath a sloped glass ceiling and walls, features stone slab floors and a fig tree climbing up one wall. The exquisite menu here is seasonal and beautifully presented. A more casual option is Trellis, a courtyard brasserie which is open all day. The Lyon’s Den bar offers a traditional grand pub setting.

Facilities and activities

The hotel’s wellness spa offers treatments and massages in a peaceful haven amid whitewashed stone walls. There is also an onsite cookery school offering cookery demonstrations as well as more in-depth courses. Additionally, guests can hire bicycles and cycle along the canal, or indulge in wine tasting in the Lyon’s Den bar.
