Hotel Buðir

Hótel Búðir

Snæfellsnes Peninsula, Iceland

Named for the nearby Búðir estuary, this boutique hotel is located next to a sandy beach and a tiny church on a remote lava field on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Formerly a 17th-century trading post, it pays homage to its past with classic design touches and artworks that reference the building’s history. All of the 28 elegant and individually designed rooms have hardwood floors, minimalist decor, modern amenities, and large windows for views of the glacier, the mountains, the surrounding lava field, or the Atlantic Ocean.

There’s also a gourmet restaurant for Icelandic dishes created with fresh and local ingredients, an adjoining bar for a selection of wines, whiskeys, beers and cocktails, and an inviting lounge with eclectic decor, plush sofas and a  telescope for birdwatching. Given its secluded rural location, this is an ideal place for those wanting to catch clear views of the northern lights in the winter, or enjoy outdoor activities such as walking, hiking, horse riding, and whale watching.

OUR OPINION:

We love the remote setting of this intimate boutique hotel at the edge of a lava field on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula — making it one of Iceland’s most peaceful places to stay.
